Consultant Anaesthetist and Pain Physician

Dr Hope Ang is a Consultant Anaesthesiologist with extensive expertise in acute and chronic pain management, dedicated to helping patients regain function, reduce suffering, and improve quality of life through evidence-based, personalised care.

With more than 18 years of clinical experience, Dr Ang specialises in the assessment and treatment of complex chronic pain conditions, including musculoskeletal pain, neuropathic pain, cancer-related pain, and persistent postoperative pain. His approach integrates interventional pain procedures, ultrasound-guided regional techniques, multimodal pharmacological strategies, and close collaboration with multidisciplinary care teams to address both the physical and functional impact of chronic pain.

Dr Ang has significant leadership experience in pain medicine. Until March 2025, he served as Head of the Acute Pain Service at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where he led multidisciplinary teams in the management of complex perioperative and medical pain. In this role, he was responsible for clinical governance, service development, and the implementation of advanced pain management techniques to improve patient outcomes across surgical and medical specialties. His work in acute pain management informs his holistic approach to preventing the transition from acute to chronic pain.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr Ang is deeply committed to medical education and teaching. He serves as EnRich Mentor to budding clinicians at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. He was also appointed Clinical Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and was Adjunct Lecturer at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, where he was actively involved in teaching pain management, anaesthesia, and perioperative care to medical students and trainees. He is known for his practical, patient-centred teaching style and commitment to developing the next generation of clinicians. Dr Ang is currently a Visiting Consultant at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.

Dr Ang also brings specialised experience in hyperbaric and diving medicine, as well as leadership in complex care environments. He is the Medical Director of Red Dot Air Ambulance, providing clinical oversight for international medical repatriations and critical care transport, and an Honorary Visiting Consultant at Dover Park Hospice, contributing to palliative and end-of-life pain management.

Dr Ang’s practice is guided by a compassionate, thoughtful approach to pain care—focusing not only on symptom relief, but on restoring function, supporting psychological wellbeing, and partnering with patients through long-term pain recovery.
